Matthew Green Competes in Indy at the “Battle at the Brickyard”

July 8-11th found talented young Fountain Motorsports Quarter Midget racer Matthew Green travelling to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the inaugural USAC sanctioned .25 Midget event. With over 200 entrants, the Brickyard was packed with exceptional Quarter Midget driver’s from around the United States.

Over the 4 day event Matthew competed in both the Light X-160 and Light World Formula classes. He competed and finished 9th in the B-Main after suffering a hard collision knocking the chain off the car and being unable to get back on the track in time to finish the race. In the Fountain Light World Formula car, Matthew was running third in the A-Main when again, a driving incident forced a less than optimal result. This time another car jumped over the rear tail cone, causing the oil over flow line to be knocked out. A flow of oil leaking on the right rear tire made the car very hard to manage, as Matthew was knocked from a hard-fought 4th to 7th place on the last lap.

The event produced winners from seven different states and all participants ended up with commemorative medallions. In addition, numerous professional drivers made appearances, including Al Unser Jr. and Daytona 500 winner Ryan Newman, whom Matthew had the privilege of meeting at the event.
